What is Personal Coaching?

Personal or professional coaching is a service in which a coach helps
a client to identify and achieve personal or business goals. Your coach
assumes the combination role of mentor, goal-setter and cheerleader.

Through weekly half-hour or hour telephone consultations and
follow-up emails, coaches help clients become more successful in the
areas they wish to improve in.

Why does Coaching Work?
Coaching works for 3 reasons: Synergy, Structure, and Expertise.

Synergy: As client and coach, we are a team focused on YOUR goals
and needs. Together, you can accomplish far more than you could on
your own.

Structure: Coaches provide accountability, challenging you to think
bigger and take action sooner. You'll make progress each week toward
the goals that matter most to you.

Expertise: A coach brings their expertise and experience in business,
career and leadership development, human behavior and motivation
and life strategy to bear on all the work they do. Together, you'll set
great goals, make meaningful decisions, and create the life you dream
of living.

A coach provides the incentive, direction -- and sometimes even a
written plan -- to help clients change their lives. Personal coaches can
target a variety of needs from financial to interpersonal to time
management.

What Coaching is NOT
Coaching is not psychotherapy.  Personal coaching does not focus on
healing or resolving emotional and psychological issues. (Most
personal coaches have a referral network in place, in the event clients
require counseling by a psychologist, internist or other professional.)

Rather, personal coaches focus on helping relatively healthy
individuals accomplish or become what is most important to them.
Basically, a coach helps her client make a change.

However, our natural tendency is to stay the same.  It is why so little
real change happens in most of our lives.  With a coach, according to
David Wood, PCC, the "impulses for change are converted into
momentum."  Do you have to hire a coach to make change?  Maybe,
maybe not.

But, aren't you just a little bit curious about what your life could be like in
5 years -- while you were having fun getting there?
