Executive Functioning
Academic Support with Donna

What do I do exactly?

I provide academic and personal mentorship, skill development, encouragement, and accountability with an eye toward leveraging each students strengths while supporting areas of growth. A session is typically just shy of an hour long and seeks to support the student in academic endeavors. This acronym by Sean McCormick MEd describes the scope of skills that I cover:

  • Planning

  • Organization

  • Self (management, awareness, regulation, control, advocacy)

  • Initiation - the ability to begin a task or ask a question at the right time without delay

  • Time management

  • Inhibition - the ability to focus on relevant information while ignoring distractions

  • Vision and goal setting

  • Evaluating priorities

During each session we may work to develop these EF skills as we evaluate unfinished work, plan assignments and projects going forward, develop strategies to address areas of concern, or explicitly practice executive function skills.

Most students meet at least twice a week, but the schedule is determined by the needs of each student and their parents.

As we work on self-mastery, we like to remember the

Fabulous Foundational Four:

1. Self-mastery does not rely solely on self to gain mastery.

2. Learn, Try, Repeat.

3. Laughter kills stress and feeds creativity.

4. Every minute is a new minute to start again.
