Why Some Have Hired a Coach.

The following are examples given by David Wood, PCC of different situations where a coach makes an difference. These are just some of many reasons that individuals decide their desire for change is worth having a partner who is committed to helping get them to where they want to be.

"I needed accountability."

I didn't need a coach to tell me what to do. I KNOW what I need to do, I just wasn't doing it. I'd even make To Do Lists, and sometimes set goals, but for some reason it just didn't seem to get done. I'd write that book, change jobs, do that course, work on my relationship, start that business --soon. Working with my coach was surprisingly simple. He'd ask me one week what I was going to do, and I knew he'd ask me next week if I'd done it. Simply adding one more person to the equation means I now do what I say I will do. What a difference!

"I needed a plan."

I felt like I was all over the place - scattered. I was reacting to emergencies as they came up, rather than planning ahead. I was a little late to every meeting, not meeting my all my commitments, stressed, and riding high on adrenaline. My coach helped me to identify what was driving me--the hidden need I was constantly trying to meet, and to see why I really WANTED to be so busy.

"I needed direction - what is my purpose?"

I didn't feel like what I was doing was meaningful. Each day was fine --go to work, achieve results, come home, watch TV, have a couple of drinks, dinner with our friends, vacation every now and then. But nothing really got me excited. There wasn't a purpose to what I was doing. My coach helped me create a vision which actually inspired me! One which reflected the values we had identified were important to me. We then crafted a personal mission statement of HOW I would achieve this, and some exciting strategies. Now, I actually feel like I'm playing a BIG game, with a very worthwhile goal which makes a difference. There's now a point to getting out of bed, and it feels great.

"I needed to find focus."

II had so many things on my plate it was ridiculous. AND, I had five more projects I wanted to pursue, but no time to do them. I couldn't decide which way to go, or what to do first. My coach helped me identify my values what was really important, and what wasn't. Some were VERY hard to let go, but I'm so glad I did! Now, instead of making a good dent in 20 areas, I am actually producing amazing results in three! I'm amazed at how good it feels to be focused, and really producing results
